It feels like ages since I have been on here..
Luckily that is because I have successfully settled into my new home at the Zone Hotel in the northern part of Rome! Moving here for a semester is the scariest thing I have ever done, but I can already tell it will be the most fun and rewarding 3.5 months of my life. I have already seen some major sights (the Trevi Fountain being my favorite!), seen some of Italy outside of Rome, and met some amazing people. My Italian has (barely) improved and I am really enjoying all of my classes. I have already fallen in love with this city as well as gelato, and I find it so amazing that each free weekend I can pick a city or country and just go! Everything is different here, from the culture and food to the architecture and how people go out! The nightlife is amazing and every night you meet people from around the world just wanting to have a good time and good conversation. Needless to say I love it here!
One thing I know already is that if possible, everyone should travel. Whether it be a road trip or to another country, just go! Don’t make excuses or let nerves slow you down, you can learn a lot about yourself and others. I know this sounds generic and corny, but it is so unbelievably true. I think this move is just what I needed for awhile, although I miss my family, friends, and American food terribly, I needed to know what it is like to be on my own, isolated from those I am closest too, and see how I can handle life as an independent person, away from my typical dependence on others and world of #onlychildproblems. I can happily say it is going great so far - I am even planning a trip to Madrid to go on by myself! Exploring, getting out of my comfort zone, and realizing my full potential as an adult while having great fun and adventures is exactly what I needed; I am so thankful to have (arguably, next to Chicago) the most amazing city in the world as my setting.
